News @ Jains - Maharashtra Govt. signed MoU with Jain Irrigation
Mumbai 22 Sept. - Maharashtra Government has signed an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jain Irrigation to launch public-private-partnership (PPP) initiative for increasing cotton production for small dry-land farmers, on Thursday Sept.22. Anil Jain, Managing Director of Jain Irrigation and Sudhir Goyal, Chief Secretory, Agriculture Department of Govt. of Maharashtra have signed this MoU. Agricultural Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Uday Khanna, Vice President Bombay Chamber of Commerce, Shivaji Deshmukh, Commissioner of Agriculture, Atindra Sen, Director of Bombay Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Soman, Senior Vice President, Jain Irrigation System Ltd. is also present on this occasion. By this agreement drip irrigation technology will reach to one lakh hectares and this will help to increase yield by threefold. In this scheme target has been setup to cover twenty thousand hectares each year for the coming 5 years. Drip irrigation system will be operated on small dry-land farmers field pond and after using the drip technology cotton yield will increase from 6 to 8 quintal to 18 to 21 quintal. With minimum 730 mm rainfall and field pond or who ever has water source will get benefited by this scheme. The scheme will be implemented through Agriculture department, Govt. of Maharashtra in partnership with Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. This will be unique project, first time in Maharashtra where State Govt. and Private Company working together for dry land farmers. |
